Pasig City Mega Market

Our local outdoor market here in Pasig City. I am only starting to grasp a real feel for its organization and the variety of both food and household items sold here. As always, markets are fascinating places. Not just because of the fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and fish sold here, but also as a social gathering place for thousands of ordinary Filipinos. By “ordinary” I mean the vast majority – working class people. The people who you might never see in one of the dozens of classy malls one finds all over Greater Manila. I try to visit the market once a week and will continue to add and delete images as this gallery evolves. So far I am only using my little Sony DSC-HX90V and my iPhone.

August 23, 2023 additions include the fish area and my first exploratory visit to the second level where clothes and other items not having to do with food are sold. Immediately struck by the significant number of both Muslim women and Lady Boys operating the booths. The irony of these two groups being relegated to the second floor running their little clothing shops next to each other did not fail to catch my notice.
